Where to buy a house on the Costa Blanca? Six Blue Flag beaches worth exploring

Where to buy a house on the Costa Blanca? Six Blue Flag beaches worth exploring

If you're thinking about buying a house on the Costa Blanca, the most photogenic beach isn't necessarily the best place to live nearby. A more useful question is: what happens to the area when summer ends? Easy access, shops that stay open all year and the ability to walk to the beach can be just as important as the sand itself.

The Blue Flag award recognises standards relating to water quality, safety, facilities and environmental management. However, it does not certify the properties in the surrounding area. These six beaches, awarded Blue Flag status in 2026, offer different starting points for exploring the southern Costa Blanca:

  • La Zenia – Cala Bosque (Orihuela Costa): A fine sandy beach with accessible facilities. Particularly interesting if you value convenience and nearby amenities.

  • Cala Capitán (Cabo Roig): A small island known as Isla del Carmen divides the cove into two swimming areas. An excellent place to explore if you prefer the scenery of smaller coves.

  • Cabo Roig – La Caleta: Sheltered by the headland, this beach offers the opportunity to discover a stretch of coastline close to the historic Cabo Roig watchtower.

  • Campoamor – La Glea: One of the largest beaches in Orihuela Costa, situated near the marina, with leisure facilities and restaurants nearby.

  • Mil Palmeras: Fine sand and an open beachfront, located on the border between Orihuela and Pilar de la Horadada. It's also worth exploring the residential streets further inland.

  • La Mata (Torrevieja): An extensive sandy beach where seaside walks and the Molino del Agua dune nature area create a distinctive landscape.

Visit your favourite beach at different times of day. The true distance to the beach is best measured on foot, rather than simply looking at a map.

Choosing the right property when buying a house on the Costa Blanca near the sea

Before buying a house on the Costa Blanca, think about what you'll need on an ordinary Tuesday, not just during your holidays. Would a terrace for enjoying breakfast outdoors be enough? Would you prefer an extra bedroom for visiting family? Do you need supermarkets and healthcare facilities nearby?

At Marea Estates, we place particular emphasis on apartments and townhouses, primarily resale properties and new-build homes that are completed or nearing completion. An apartment can be a practical choice if you're looking for an easy-to-maintain holiday home, while a townhouse may offer greater independence and outdoor space, depending on the individual property.

Resale properties allow you to assess the actual condition of the home and its established surroundings. With a new-build property, it's important to check the finishes, documentation, expected completion date and exactly what's included in the purchase price.

Whether you're attracted to Orihuela Costa or prefer Torrevieja, consider the property's orientation, community fees, walking distance to the beach and access to golf courses. An address close to the sea doesn't necessarily mean the walk will be convenient. What really matters is how well the property suits your everyday routine.
